2nd Annual Pink Blog Hop

Like what you see?

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Pink Blog Hop organised by US demonstrator Janet Wakefield. This is my first time in this Blog Hop but it’s one so close to my heart. I lost my sister when she was just 39 to this disease and when I started card making every card I sold gave 30% to a breast cancer charity. I still donate every year, I always wear it pink and many of my customers have helped me raise funds for this great cause. One year I had my ex company logo dyed into the back of my hair! That was fun and we raised a lot that year. Every penny counts, now I spread my donations out with work for Ronald MacDonald House Charities and more recently the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, but this is always first on my list. Did you know Stampin’ Up! even have a Ribbon of Courage stamp set & coordinating dies that you can use to support YOUR charity of choice? I LOVE this company!

A huge number of my friends and colleagues have been touched by breast cancer (or other types) yet some women still seem to refuse to believe it can every happen to them. Ladies we are here to raise awareness that it can & it does “happen to me” every day! My sister was a shinning light when she was dying, she touched so many lives because she knew she was going to a better place, and also because her mantra in her last year (even knowing she was leaving 3 children behind) was not “why me” but “why not me”? Why shouldn’t this happen to me, why would I wish it on anyone else. With her amazing attitude, her gratitude for life and love and family EVERY day she had left, she changed many a life forever. Of course it doesn’t mean she didn’t have a day or two when she wasn’t happy about what was happening! Thankfully she had good friends & family to support her! When I saw this stamp set, she sprung to mind!

Annual Pink Blog Hop – My Creation

It still means she’s not here though, her daughter can’t give her a hug, her sons can’t show her how well they’re doing at school.  She was unlucky, she had a very aggressive form and despite catching it early she didn’t survive. So many of my friends are still here BECAUSE they’ve caught it early. So ladies (and gents!), check & check again, get screened, get that scan, have that test. Don’t live in fear because nowadays so many more are still with us because they were aware & got early help.

This weekend I have enjoyed spending time with 13 amazing women, crafting at my retreat, and we certainly didn’t wine alone! I know that in my job every day I make a difference in people’s lives by bringing joy and creativity to their life. I’d like to make another difference too – awareness that we can beat this together if we donate, keep ourselves healthy, teach our daughters & nieces what to check for and spread the word. Then, get back to crafting & be grateful for every day that we’re here. I know my sister looks in on me regularly, she knows what I’m up to & I know she’d love to be crafting with me.  For her sake, donate, make & sell your cards, have your check-ups and scans.

Let’s beat this & stay crafting forever!!! I look forward to seeing you again next year at the 3rd Annual Pink Blog Hop too!
